George Overton, 77, of Red Wing, formerly of Willmar, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Red Wing. A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org.
George LeRoy Overton, Jr. was born November 6, 1943 in South Gate, California to George LeRoy and Helen Faye (Mangan) Overton. He grew up and attended school in Brainerd, Minnesota. Following school, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam until his discharge in May 1963. George lived in several locations before settling in Willmar, Minnesota, where he met Marcia Bredeson. George and Marcia were married on October 22, 1998.
George worked at several different jobs, including at a meat packing plant, in car sales, and at a small manufacturer. He was proud of his service in the Navy and his Irish heritage. He taught Marcia to enjoy some of the Irish cooking. He also taught her the love of fishing. They enjoyed going out in their canoe, especially to Point Lake. George was a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club. He also enjoyed wood burning and cooking. George and Marcia also always had a dog.
Surviving are her in-laws, Charles and Carol Bredeson of Willmar; and their children: Donald Bredeson of St. Peter; and sister, Janet (and Jason) Smude of Brainerd.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marcia Bredeson Overton.
