Gerald L. Kallevig 85 of Belgrade, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at the Belgrade Nursing Home.  A private family service will be held.  Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Gerald Lloyd Kallevig was born on September 22, 1935, on a farm near Spicer, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Irene (Cooper) Kallevig.  He was baptized on December 8, 1935, at Green Lake Lutheran Church in rural Spicer and confirmed in 1948 at First Covenant Church in Willmar.  He grew up in the Spicer and Willmar areas where he received his education at a small county school near his farm.  After his education, he began working as a mechanic and as a farmer.

On September 29, 1956, Gerald was united in marriage to Jean Gunderson at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London, MN.  This union was blessed with three daughters and three sons.  The family made their home in rural Belgrade.  In 1961 Gerald began working for Nelson Auto Electric.  In 1973 he became a partner in the business and in 1982 he moved the business to his farm.  In 1997 he retired from the mechanic business.  During the summers of 1998-2001, Gerald drove truck for Belgrade Steel Tank.  In 2003 he and Jean retired from farming and moved into Belgrade.

Gerald was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade.  He volunteered there as a deacon, member of the church council, usher, and greeter.    Gerald loved to go fishing and made many trips to Canada to “catch the big one”.  He also enjoyed restoring old tractors and being a mechanic. For many years Gerald and Jean enjoyed wintering in Arizona and spending time with friends there.   Above all else, Gerald loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; children:  Julie Nelson of Stillwater, Kim (Patricia) of Osakis, Dan (Sue) of Sunburg, Terri Poole (fiancé, Orville Rudningen) of Belgrade, and Allan (Christy) Kallevig of Belgrade; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Myra (Darrell) McGarvie of Belgrade; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Kraemer, grandson, Seth Kallevig; great-grandson Francis Nelson; son-in-law, Jeff Nelson; parents, Ole and Irene; and two sisters.
