Gertrude Anna (Bongs) Heida

Gertrude Heida, 101, of Raymond, died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Carris Health Care Center in Willmar.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at United Methodist Church in Raymond. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond.  Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, January 3, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org.

Gertrude Anna Heida was born November 16, 1920, in Elyria, Ohio, to William and Anna (Bongs) Hippen.  When she was three, her family moved to the Raymond, Minnesota area, where she grew up and attended country school.  On June 29, 1940, she married Tony Heida at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond and two sons: Darwin and Lary, were born to their marriage.  They farmed near Raymond until 1964, when they began the hardware store in Raymond, which they owned and operated for many years.

Gertrude was a member of the United Methodist Church in Raymond, where she taught Sunday School, was active with UMW, and sang in the choir.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking, and made especially delicious brownies.  She also enjoyed having her afternoon coffee with the neighbors.

She is survived by her two sons: Darwin (Sharon) Heida of Raymond, and Lary (Joyce) Heida of Champlin; seven grandchildren: Terri Morrow, David (Jin) Heida, Jodi Heida (Jerry McMahon), Sara (Joshua) Hohlen, Shellane Bayliss, Paul (Elaine) Heida, and Peter (Wan) Heida; thirteen great-grandchildren: Hunter Morrow, Carter Morrow, Makaela Morrow, Ashley Heida, Jordan Heida, Lilah Hohlen, Grace Hohlen, Paul Charles (Sarah) Bayliss, Stuart (Katie) Bayliss, Emma Bayliss, Ally (Kyle) Anderson, Ryan Heida and Jared Heida; a great-great-grandson: Gabriel Bayliss; a brother: Bill (Vonda) Bongs of Deerwood; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tony Heida in 1984; and five sisters: Marie (Arnold) Boettcher, Lucille (Ken) Robertson, Erna (Russell) Wagner, Verna (Gordon) Jydstrup, and Marilyn Bongs.
