Glen Wilson, 92, of Willmar, died Friday, September 13th at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar. His memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 21st at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be at a later date at Marshall Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are preferred to Hawk Creek Animal Shelter. www.hafh.org
Benjamin Glen Wilson was born April 10, 1932, to Benjamin Herchal and Anna Marie (Wing) Wilson in Marshall. He was baptized on September 13, 1952, at 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall and later confirmed on February 1, 1959, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Glen and his family lived in rural Marshall until moving to Lynd in 1938. He attended elementary school and graduated from Lynd High School in 1950. During and after High School Glen worked for Moore Electric. He also attended Gayle Institute for Telegraphy in Minneapolis. In 1952, following Telegraphy School, he was hired by the Minneapolis and St Louis Railroad, M&StL., as a Station Agent. Shortly after that he was drafted into the US Army and honorably served for two years during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he returned to work for M&StL. He worked as a station agent in several towns while with M&StL. While working for M&StL, Glen enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, full time. Glen was united in marriage to Peggy Wewetzer on July 25, 1957, they made their home in Montgomery. Glen graduated in 1960 from Gustavus Adolphus, Magna Cum Laude. He started working for the Internal Revenue Service and continued to work there for 28 years, retiring in 1988. Glen took and passed the CPA exam in 1974. Glen was an active volunteer at Vinje Lutheran Church and served on the church council for six years. He was a member of the Willmar American Legion, VFW, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees where he served as President and Secretary/Treasurer. He loved fishing, the Shack on Long Lake, the Cottage on Lake Traverse, traveling, helping, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend.
Glen is survived by his wife, Peggy; son: Mark (Elizabeth) Wilson, daughter, Marie (Brad) Wold and their children: Sam, Becca (Eric) Pederson, Jake (Emilee) and great-granddaughter, Daphne; son, Steve (Cristi) Wilson and their children, Aaron, Alec (Aimee); daughter, Rita (Erik) Nazarenus and their children, Dennis (Autumn), Dillon and great-grandchildren: Abbalynn and Doran; and siblings: Marvin Wilson of Winona and Doris Dandurand of Klamath Falls, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Adam Wilson; daughter-in-law, Susan Wilson; six brothers and two sisters.
