Gordon D. Gerdes

Gordon D. Gerdes, 83 of Kerkhoven, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Clara City Care Center in Clara City.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.   Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.  Arrangements are with the Harvey Anderson and Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar.  

Gordon Dale Gerdes was born on January 2, 1943 on his grandparents’ farm in Louriston Township, the son of Julius and Eleanor (Anderson) Gerdes. He attended Kerkhoven High School, graduating in 1962.  He worked for Molenaar Plastics for a short time before joining his father and brother farming near Kerkhoven.  He retired in 2013 and then spent time fixing up his equipment, barn and building site.

Gordon loved all things farming, from driving the countryside evaluating the crops to discussing new farming techniques and equipment with neighbors and good friends.  He was handy at making modifications and was able to fix about anything. He kept busy with several projects including many Carbles boards. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and games, and especially liked to win playing Carbles with his family. Gordy wore out many decks of cards playing solitaire. 

Gordon is survived by his sister-in-law, Karon Gerdes; nieces Monique (Scott) Dorow, Melinda Gerdes; Katherine Gerdes (Lynn Peters), Rebecca Gerdes Lee as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and many neighbors and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Eleanor; brother Kenneth and nephew Mark Gerdes.
