Gordon Skindelien, 90, of New London, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 16, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at First Lutheran of Norway Lake Cemetery.
Gordon Duane Skindelien was born November 9, 1933, in Lake Andrew Township, near New London, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Birdie (Dengerud) Skindelien. He grew up near Jericho in Norway Lake Township, attended country school, and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. At age 13, he began driving road grader, and worked independently and for Kandiyohi County for nearly 50 years until his retirement at age 62.
On March 26, 1954, he married Faith Evenson at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar and three children: Gerald, Brian, and Paulette, were born to their marriage. They made their home on Norway Lake until 1974, when they built their home near Jericho.
Gordon loved the outdoors and enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing. He was also a gifted woodworker and made many beautiful intarsia pieces. He was a quiet and humble man, who cared deeply for his family.
He is survived by his wife: Faith; two children: Gerald (Michelle) Skindelien of Alexandria, and Paulette Jensen of New London; five grandchildren: Alyssa (Chris) Suriano, Micah (Eve) Skindelien, Nick (Kaylena) Skindelien, Shari Jablonski, and Denise Jensen; thirteen great-grandchildren: Ethan, Anika, Asher, Olivia, Esme, Tobin, Stella, Lincoln, Laura, Rayana, Trinity, Jackson, and Serenity; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: Brian Skindelien in 2018; and a sister: Mildred Lindgren.
