Grace Yates, 95, of Pennock, died Wednesday, December 18th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her memorial service will be 3:00 pm, Friday, December 27th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one and a half hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven at a later date. Grace Carol Sundt was born on March 5, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harvey and Gladys (Berggren) Sundt. She attended school in Minnesota until the 8th grade. In November of 1947, she married Walter Carls, and together they had four children: Juanita, Calvin, Ellery, and a premature daughter. The family lived in Alberta, Minnesota, before settling in Pennock, where they spent many years farming together. Walter passed away in 1979. In March of 1989, Grace married Alvin Yates, and they made their home in Pennock until Alvin's passing in 2010.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Grace was well-known for hosting holidays and making everyone feel loved and welcome.
She is survived by her daughter, Juanita (Donovan) Halverson; daughter-in-law, Arlene Carls; grandchildren: Gretchen (Kelly) Hauge, Alicia (Dana) Molenaar, Becky (Troy) Spanier, and Katie Carls; as well as her great-grandchildren: Dillon, Ethan, Brook, Kayla, Matthew, and Ella.
Grace was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Carls and Alvin Yates; her sons, Ellery and Calvin; her granddaughter, Angela Carls; her parents; and her sisters, Junice (Mike) Miokovich and Barbara (Ken) Ennesser.
