Gregory Sykora

Gregory “Greg” Sykora, 73, of Spicer, MN went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday, June 15, 2026 surrounded by his loving family, at his home, following a brief, rare disease.  His celebration of life will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 7 at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar.  Greg continued to think of others, even in the face of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, choosing to donate his body for research, with the hope that it would lead to greater understanding and future advancements in the study of this rare disease.

Gregory Clarence Sykora was born on February 11, 1953, in Westbrook, MN, to Clarence and Luella (Kuehl) Sykora. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Marshall, MN where he attended school and graduated from Marshall High School, in 1971.  Greg continued his education at Southwest State University, in Marshall, graduating in 1975, with a degree in Accounting; followed by two years of additional study at Dunwoody Institute, in Minneapolis, where he earned an additional diploma in Electrical training, in 1977.

On December 29, 1979, Greg was united in marriage to Jane Kjolsing at First Presbyterian Church, in Willmar, MN. Together, they were blessed with two children, Beth and Paul. The family made their home in Willmar, before settling in Spicer,  in 1989, where Greg and Jane continued to reside.

Following his secondary education, Greg began his career, as an electrician, with Willmar Electric Service, Inc., where he worked humbly and faithfully for 46 years.  He took great pride in his work and was widely respected for his ability to diagnose and solve complex electrical problems. Known as, “the legend” and a trusted troubleshooter, Greg was often called upon to assist others when challenges arose.

Greg was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Willmar and served in numerous capacities, including:  the Board of Deacons, the Building and Grounds Committee and as a Sunday School teacher. He was also active in the community through Willmar Kiwanis and was appointed to serve on the Minnesota State Board of Electricity, as a board member and vice president. He also taught an electrician apprenticeship course at Willmar Electric, Inc. called Wheels of Learning, for several years.  In addition, he was a member of the Willmar Rifle and Pistol Club.

Greg had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, boating and exploring nature, with family and friends. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Jane Sykora, of Spicer, MN; his children, Beth (Matt) Stark, of Kandiyohi, MN and Paul Sykora, of Spicer, MN; as well as his grandchildren:  Paige Sykora, Gracie Sykora, Hailey Stark and William Stark. He is also survived by his siblings:  Julie (Mark) Taintor, of Chanhassen, MN; Stuart (Linda) Sykora, of Whitefish, MT and Dr. Kim (Yvonne) Sykora, of Philadelphia, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Luella Sykora.  Blessed be the loving memory of Greg.
