Harriet June (Botten) Stai

Harriet Stai, 93, of Sunburg, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at GlenOaks Senior Living in New London.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church, Sunburg Fire Department, or Sunburg Ambulance. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes.

Harriet was born June 16, 1932, in Brooten, to Henry and E. Mathilda (Johnson) Botten. She grew up in the rural Brooten/Sunburg area and attended District 72 School north of Sunburg. She was baptized at Sunburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church.

On March 31, 1951, Harriet married Alden Stai in Brooten. Five children, Lyle, Gary, Mark, Debra, and Neil, were born to their marriage. Alden and Harriet lived and farmed south of Sunburg until 1993, when they retired from farming. Harriet resided the past several years at GlenOaks Senior Living in New London.

Harriet was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg, where she was active in Bible study and Ladies Circle. She enjoyed shopping, attending garage sales, refinishing furniture, and quilting. Harriet also enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Arizona and Alaska.

Harriet is survived by her five children: Lyle Stai of Kerkhoven, Gary (Kathy) Stai of New London, Mark Stai of Holdingford, Debra (Greg) Swenson of New London, and Neil Stai of Spicer; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Glenda Dragert of Little Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alden, in 2004.
