Harry William Johnson

Harry Johnson, 86, of Sunburg, died Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Scandi Haven in Benson.

His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, at Salem Covenant Church near Pennock.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harry William Johnson was born March 23, 1939, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Wallace and Mabel (Halverson) Johnson.  He was baptized and later confirmed at Salem Covenant Church.  He grew up on a farm north of Pennock and attended country school and later Willmar High School, graduating in 1957.  On March 14, 1959, Harry was united in marriage to Mary Ling at Salem Covenant Church. To this union six children were born. Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren were later added.  Harry and Mary lived and farmed in Arctander Township for 49 years, until retiring from farming in 2009.  After retirement, they continued to live on the farm.

Harry was active at Salem Covenant Church, where he served as an usher, trustee and treasurer.  Harry also served on the USDA Farm Service Agency County Committee and Arctander Township Board, and was a member of the Gun Club and the Darkhouse Association.  Harry enjoyed hunting and especially fishing, including over 100 fishing trips to Canada.  He will be remembered for his storytelling, his smile and his laugh.

He is survived by his five sons: Scott Johnson, Craig (Renee) Johnson, Blake Johnson, Troy Johnson, all of Sunburg, and Todd (Erica) Johnson of Murdock; son-in-law: Mitch Tofte of Kerkhoven; grandchildren: Erin (Elliot) Ballance, Allison (Jake) Stricherz, Amber (Owen) Lu, Tyson  Tofte, Taya (Jon) Broberg, Whitney Tofte, Zach Johnson, Samantha (Brant) Beckman, Lloghyn (Jake) Gassaway, Haylee (Maximus) Hanson, Ely (Anna) Johnson, and Noah Johnson; great-grandchildren: Carson, Gavin, Emmett, Colby, Leo, Maclynn, Waldo, Lena, Poppy, Kitson, Finn, and Cain; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Mary in January 2021; his daughter: Dori Tofte in 2014; his brothers: Eldon (Ann) Johnson and Vernice (Grace) Johnson; and a great-granddaughter: Phoebe Joy Lu.
