Irene (Margaret) Rosendahl

Irene (Margaret) Rosendahl, 84, of New London passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria.  A funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London.  Burial will be at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Friday from 5-7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service.   

Margaret Irene Rosendahl was born on April 29, 1936, in Cooperstown, North Dakota, the daughter of Melfred and Margaret (Johnson) Monson.  She grew up in Cooperstown where she received her education and graduated from Cooperstown High School with the class of 1954.  On April 17, 1955, Irene was united in marriage to Harold Rosendahl at the Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church.  This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters.  The family made their home in Finley before moving to the New London/Spicer area in 1973 where they farmed.  In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Irene worked as a teller for Farmers State Bank in New London.  She worked there 20 years before her retirement. 

Irene was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake.  She was active in the Women’s Circle and later the WELCA.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in both Finley and New London, serving for over 60 years.  Irene enjoyed selling poppies for the Auxiliary, gardening, auctions, playing whist, and crafting.  She was a wonderful baker and cook and loved entertaining for the holidays. 

Margaret is survived by her son, Dan and Kathy of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Michele of Aberdeen, SD; son, Jeff and Kay of New London; daughters, Tracy and Butch Cole of Alexandria, and Wendy and Sean Karsch of Paynesville; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings, Albert Monson, Lee (Shelia) Monson, and Laurie (Kent) Brothen; and many nieces and nephews. 

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Steven; sisters, Betty and Gayle; and her brother, David.
