Irmgard Dahlke Obituary

Irmgard Dahlke, age 92, of Kandiyohi, died Sunday, July 26, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Interment will be at Clover Leaf Cemetery in Willmar.  Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org.

Irmgard Olga Wanda (Koernig) Dahlke was born January 9, 1928, in Prushus Friedland, East Germany, to Erich and Olga Koernig.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelic Lutheran Church in Prushus Friedland.  She attended public school through the eighth grade and graduated.  She then worked on an apprenticeship at a creamery.  On January 23, 1945, she fled with her parents from her homeland to get away from the Russian troops.  They lived with relatives in Mecklenburg (Middle Germany) until the end of the war.  Later that year she went to West Germany and worked at an ASCS office and wholesale house as a bookkeeper and secretary in Virson Rheinland, Germany.  In May 1956 she came by the ship "The America" to the United States.  She married Michael E. Dahlke in Stillwater on June 9, 1956.  They farmed in Madison, Minnesota until 1961 and then moved to Kandiyohi.  She was an active farmer alongside her husband.  They retired in 1992 and continued to live on the farm.

Irmgard was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was an active member of Home Extension for many years.  She also volunteered at Bethesda Nursing Home, sharing German heritage, reading the Bible and hymns in German.  She loved her vegetable and flower garden, canning, baking, sewing, and quilting.  Irmgard and Michael enjoyed traveling all over the United States and even traveled to Germany.  She also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all had a special place in her heart.

Irmgard is survived by her daughters: Helga (and Larry) Miller of Willmar and Marilyn Worke of Kandiyohi; grandchildren: Grant (and Cortney) Miller of Paynesville, Eric (and Laura) Worke of Albert Lea, and Ryan (and Carise) Miller of Kasson; three great-grandchildren: Grady Miller, Kiley Miller, and Lexi Worke; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Michael in 2019; her brothers: Horst (and Elly) Koernig and Gunter (and Annegret) Koernig; and a niece: Hannelore Koernig Antunovic.
