James Andrew Hjelle, 56, of New London, died Wednesday, July 29th at St. Cloud Hospital. His graveside service will be 11:00 am, Monday, August 3rd at East Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural New London. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
James Andrew Hjelle was born March 16, 1964, in Willmar, the son of Kermit and Evelyn (Benjaminson) Hjelle. He grew up on the family farm north of Pennock. James attended school in New London, graduating from New London High School with the Class of 1982. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served four years on the USS Ranger and USS Kittyhawk. After his honorable discharge, he came back to family farm where he began working full time. Eventually, James started masonry work, and worked for various companies. He was a member of the Minnesota and North Dakota Bricklayers Union. James traveled all over the state for work, often in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. James enjoyed ice fishing, hunting for mushrooms, collecting and shining rocks, gardening, hosting family events and spending time with his family. James would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and would often donate much of his time to help friends and family with various projects. He was a loving father, son, brother and friend.
James is survived by his children: Hailey Hjelle of New London and Treston Hjelle of New London; brothers: John (and Carol) Hjelle of Kerkhoven and Dean (and Alicia) Hjelle of Pennock. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Karen Hjelle and David Hjelle.
