James Loehr Obituary

James Allan Loehr, 94, of New London, died Friday, December 8th at Bethesda North Pointe in New London. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 15th at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #167 following the service.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given to Vinje Lutheran Church or Bethesda Foundation.

Jim was born November 25, 1929, in Starkweather, North Dakota, the son of Elmer and Thelma (Berg) Loehr.  He graduated from Starkweather High School in 1947.  While attending University of North Dakota, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served with distinction during the Korean War.  Jim was able to return to Korea when he was 88 years old to retrace his steps and give honor to his friends who didn’t return home. Following his discharge, he returned to U of ND, receiving his degree in 1953.  He eventually earned his Master’s in Education.  It was while he was teaching in Litchfield, that he met his wife to be, Audrey Kleven.  They were united in marriage on December 17, 1960.

Jim taught for a couple years before starting a successful career in banking with Norwest Corporation.  He worked in Litchfield, Dodge Center, Edina and Faribault where he retired as President in 1990.

His most success in life came as being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His quiet, consistent love for his family evident in every aspect of his life. Jim and Audrey were a wonderful team and were definitely “hands on” grandparents as Happy and Papa.  This teamwork was evident in how they supported and raised their daughters, especially Jennifer with her challenges in life with cerebral palsy.

Surviving are his daughters, Sandra (Dr. Kevin) Unger of Spicer, Susan (Scot) Housh of Edina; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Jordan (Michelle) Housh, Teddy and Lucy; Ali (Zach) Patil, Audrey, Suzette and Eloise; AJ Housh, Jack Unger, Austin Housh, Jimmy (KyLee) Unger and Haley Housh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Audrey, in 2016; daughter, Jennifer, in 2017; and brothers, Lloyd and Vern.
