James Turnquist Obituary

James D. Turnquist, 83 of New London, died January 22, 2024 at his home in New London.   Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church. Services will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFQv3HkKI0k     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. 

James Dale Turnquist was born on September 8, 1940 in Benson, the son of Dale and Dorothy (Anderson) Turnquist.  He grew up in Murdock and graduated from the Murdock High School in 1958.  On February 18, 1959, he entered the US Navy where he served his country until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1963.  On June 30, 1962, Jim was united in marriage to Ann Shelstad.  This union was blessed with three sons.  They made their home in New London where he worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a clerk for 38 years.

Jim was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, casino trips with Ann, working with his hunting dogs, watching sports and playing sports in his younger years.   He was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them.  

He is survived by his sons, Gary (Sarah) Turnquist, Allan (Paula) Turnquist and Daryl Turnquist; grandchildren, Aaron (Julia), Emily, Ryan (Ally), and Shelby (Zach); great-grandchildren, Braya and Crew and sisters, Doreen (Ralph) Haglund and Cindy Turnquist Bowers.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents and brothers, Dennis and Ron.
