Janice Hultgren Obituary

Janice Hultgren, 75, originally of Raymond, passed away Tuesday, January 6th in Minnetonka.  Her time of remembrance will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 31st at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar with fellowship to follow. www.hafh.org

Janice was born March 14, 1950, in Willmar, the daughter of Walter Lowell and Marjorie Lucille (Birkland) Hultgren.  She grew up on the farm west of Willmar. Jan loved the farm, and was very involved in its operations while growing up.  Jan was naturally gifted musically and athletically.  She attended Willmar High School, graduating in 1968.  Jan had many interests and jobs in the 70s and 80s.  She was part of a championship women’s softball team for many years, and excelled in leagues for basketball and bowling.  She worked on her golf game while working at Little Crow Country Club, the family farm, and co-owning and operating Dino’s Pizza in Elk River with sister Caryn.  Jan competed in many local, state, and national women’s amateur golf tournaments during this time. She became the first female club professional at Willmar Golf Club in 1983, where she stayed for two years before moving to Florida to be a rules official for a women’s professional golf tour.  Jan worked for the Futures Golf Tour for a number of years, travelling the country and working as Head Rules Official, and Vice President of Operations and Finance.  After leaving the tour, Jan settled in Sebring, Florida, working in accounting and bookkeeping for a golf course and other local businesses.  After retirement, Jan resided in Lakeland, Florida until her health brought her back to Minnesota to be closer to her family.

Jan was a strong, smart, athletically gifted woman during a time that there were not a lot of opportunities for women, and she had to work hard for all she accomplished.  At the same time, she remained a very thoughtful, kind and caring daughter, sister, aunt, friend and mentor. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her siblings: Caryn (Lester) Lundquist of Andover, Marilyn (William) Meyer of W. St. Paul, Duane (Nancy) Hultgren of Raymond and Renae Hultgren of Burnsville; 10 nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews, and two great-great nephews. Also surviving are her aunts, Marion Rusten, LaVerna Birkland, and Marilyn Hultgren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Chad Lundquist.
