Janie S. Wyatt

Janie Sylvia Wyatt 99, of Willmar died Friday, July 12, 2019, in her home at Copperleaf Senior Living Community in Willmar.  A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 pm Friday, July 19, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.  

Janie Sylvia Wyatt was born August 3, 1919, In Opelika, Alabama.  Her family moved to West Virginia then to Gary, Indiana, where Janie graduated from Froebel High School. Janie later went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Purdue University. 

On August 24, 1941, Janie was united in marriage to Jefferson Wyatt Sr.  This union was blessed with a son.  The family made their home in Gary where Janie was a homemaker and substitute teacher.  In 1991 Jefferson died.  They shared in 50 years of marriage before his death. 

Janie was a member of First A.M.E. Church in Gary.  She was active in their missionary work.  Janie was a Girl Scout Leader and active member of her neighborhood.  She was the first person to lend a helping hand and often would cook for those that needed a meal. 

Janie is survived by her son, Jefferson Wyatt Jr. of New London; grandson, Sean C. (Tiffanni) Wyatt of Chicago, IL; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
