Jared A. Johnson, 64, of Spicer, died Wednesday, May 7th at his home. Jared was born May 1, 1961, in Bloomington, the son of Algernon and Betty Lou Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, growing up in the church, he sang in children’s choirs and attended school. Later moving to the farm near Litchfield and being involved in 4-H, he learned how to care for dairy goats, beef cattle, poultry, horses, doing field work and gardening and earned many blue ribbons for his work.
With his love of music and strong singing voice, he sang the lead in “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a production by the Johnson Family Singers. While attending Litchfield High School, he sang as Professor Harold Hill in “The Music Man.”
Jared studied agriculture at Ridgewater College and had an Associate Degree from Citrus College in California in business and social behavior.
Following his neck surgery, Jared worked in retail management for Egghead Software in California and after moving to Spicer for Bonnema Hardware.
Praising his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, he retired with various illnesses. He enjoyed growing mushrooms, hunting and fishing and being a caregiver to his mother.
He is very much missed by his good friends and family. Surviving are his siblings, Eric (Tina) Johnson of Garden City, Todd (Teri) Johnson of Andover, Andrea (Michael) Wieland of Spring Valley, WI; and Kirsten (John) Staz of Lemoyne, PA.
