erome Flaspeter, 81, of Montevideo, died Wednesday, May 12, at Appleton Area Health Care Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Redeemer Cemetery in Henderson. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Jerome Gregory Flaspeter was born March 3, 1941, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Theodore and Julia (Beste) Flaspeter. Jerome grew up and received his education in the St. Paul area, before serving in the U.S. Air Force.
He married LuAnn Oldenburg on July 17, 1976, at Zion United Church of Christ in LeSueur, MN. A daughter, Gina, was born to their marriage. They lived for two years in Belle Plaine, MN, before spending the next twenty years (1978-1998) living in Montana. They lived in very rural areas and had to haul in their own drinking water from a local spring. Jerome farmed, raised sheep, drove truck and worked as a mechanic. In 1990, the family moved to Benson, MN, where they continued to farm and raise sheep, goats, and geese. Jerome drove truck for New London Concrete and worked as a mechanic as well. After, LuAnn’s death in 2015, Jerome lived with his daughter in rural Montevideo.
Jerome loved tractors and had a special fondness for John Deeres. He enjoyed hunting, exploring ghost towns, driving through the mountains and picnics with his family.
Jerome is survived by his daughter: Gina; sisters: Jewell Bahnmiller and Pat Kaeder; and brother: Bill Flaspeter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: LuAnn; sisters: Jeanne Skierka and Sr. Lorraine Flaspeter OSB; and brothers: Ted Flaspeter and Richard Flaspeter.
