Jerome “Jerry” Thomas Dahl, 73, of New London, died Wednesday, February 14th at St. Cloud Hospital. His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, February 22nd at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in De Graff. www.hafh.org
Jerome Thomas Dahl was born March 3, 1950, to Nels and Elizabeth (O’Malley) Dahl in Benson. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in De Graff.
Jerry attended school in Benson where he excelled in football. After graduating high school in 1968, Jerry furthered his education at North Dakota School of Science for two years before graduating from NDSU. He continued to excel in football and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers. He was later inducted into the Hall of Fame for Benson High School, North Dakota School of Science and also NDSU.
On June 2, 1979, Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Canon at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. To this union they were blessed with three children: John, Jessica, and Jeremiah. They lived in Willmar briefly before making their home in New London in 1979. Jerry started Jerry’s Body Shop in Benson where he enjoyed the challenge of fixing and restoring vehicles. He was extremely handy and could fix anything. He enjoyed having friends to his shop where they would visit and have coffee and donuts.
Jerry also enjoyed playing softball, golf, hunting, fishing, camping, flying model airplanes and watching his grandchildren in their activities. He was engaged with his grandchildren and enjoyed coaching and teaching them. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon of New London; children: John (Cindy) Dahl of New London, Jessica (Joe) Delzer of Spicer, and Jeremiah (Jen) Dahl of New London; grandchildren: Jaimi, Will, Kylee, Mason, Peyton, Katelyn, Ashton, and Cooper; and great-grandchildren: Ashley and Trey. He is also survived by his brothers: Jim “Swede” (Julie) Dahl and Jeff (Colleen) Dahl; and several nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jane Zupke and John “Jack” Dahl.
