JoAnn Marie Caskey was born August 4, 1947, to Frank and Clara (Degner) Hopman in Bird Island, Minnesota. Her family later moved to a farm near Danube, where she grew up. JoAnn attended Danube Elementary and High School, graduating in 1965. Following high school, she attended Willmar Vo-Tech.
On June 2, 1972, JoAnn was united in marriage to Dennis Caskey at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar. They were blessed with two daughters, Amy and Mindy. The family made their home in Priam, where they have lived for the past 53 years.
JoAnn began her career working in accounting at American Continental. She later worked in accounting and retail at Kmart before joining Menards, where she worked until her retirement in 2016.
JoAnn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher and was also involved in Bible study and Circle.
JoAnn enjoyed many things throughout her life, including sewing, quilting, arts and crafts, tending to her flower gardens, and reading the Bible. Above all, she cherished time with her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy in life. She also had a special place in her heart for her “annoying” cat, Harley.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dennis of Priam; her daughters, Amy (Jay) Olson of Willmar and Mindy (Aaran) Joneson of Willmar; and her grandchildren, Ashley Olson of Willmar, Kim-Xuyen Joneson of Brussels, Belgium, and Austin Olson of Willmar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara; and her brother, Joe Hopman.
