JoAnn “Jo” Gehrke, 64, of Monticello passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 11th at her home in Monticello. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 pm Saturday, November 2nd at Hope Presbyterian Church near Spicer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family interment will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Joann Marie Kallevig was born on November 16, 1959, to Maynard and Sylvia (Grahn) Kallevig in Willmar, Minnesota. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1978. Jo married Richard “Rick” Gehrke of Spicer on September 27, 1980 at Hope Presbyterian Church. The couple moved to Monticello where they raised their son, Shawn, and did foster care for many years. Jo worked at convenience stores and was an assistant manager at Super America in Brooklyn Park for a period of time until becoming a cook at the Maple Lake Café. She also cooked for Catholic Charities before choosing to spend more time at home and with her grandchildren.
Jo enjoyed fishing, camping, wood working, crocheting, gardening, and quilting. She also had a love for animals, especially horses, but most importantly Jo loved to spend time with her family.
Jo is survived by her husband, Rick Gehrke of Monticello; son, Shawn Gehrke of Foley; grandchildren, Mason, Hunter, Kayla, Evan, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Evelyn, and Bentley; brother, Ron “Cork” (Bev) Kallevig of Willmar; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard “Bucky” Kallevig; and sister, Judy Warren.
