John R. Dilley, 86 of New London, died Friday, August 21, 2020 at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, MN. Graveside services with military honors will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Those attending are encouraged to bring a chair for their comfort. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
John Robert Dilley Jr. was born on August 8, 1934 in New London, the son of John and Pauline (Biendara) Dilley. He grew up near Mud Lake north of New London and was a graduate of New London High School, where he played varsity baseball, basketball and football. He joined the U.S. Army on March 29, 1954 where he served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1956. After his military service he returned to Minnesota where he continued his education at St. Cloud State University and later received his Master’s degree at the University of Minnesota. John made his home and raised his family in the Minneapolis area where he worked as a state planner for the Minnesota Department of Health. He returned to New London and Mud Lake in his retirement. The hobbies John enjoyed included hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, watching the Twins and Vikings, and playing blackjack.
John is survived by his children, Todd (Kelly) Dilley, Theodore Dilley, Tashana (Jeff) Dilley-Metallo, Laura (Brendan) Haubrich Rylander and Edward Haubrich, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
