John B. Liebl 82, of Paynesville, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Centracare Hospital in Paynesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, January 20, 2020, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 3-7:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church and continue Monday one hour prior to the service with a Catholic United Rosary prayed at 10:15. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for later designation.
John was born July 26th, 1937, to John A. and Crescentia E. (Hartung) Liebl in New Ulm, MN. He graduated Holy Trinity High School in 1955. John married Donna Cecelia Kotten on April 20, 1960, in St. George, MN. John and Donna moved to Paynesville, MN in 1961 where they raised their 6 sons. John began his career at Paynesville Grain and Feed. This was followed by Liebl Construction, Inc and a long career at Maple Lake Lumber Co. He retired in 2000 and worked until recently installing garage doors for many in the area. Throughout his life, John was very active in the Catholic Church. He also served for the United States Army Reserve, American Legion, Catholic Aid Association, and was a volunteer driver for the R.O.S.E. Center. He recently received his 40-year sobriety pin in Alcoholics Anonymous and has been a mentor to countless members.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and is survived by Donna, his wife of nearly 60 years, sons: John (Lisa) of Atwater, Daniel (Vicky) of Lake Henry, Michael (Sherri) of Richmond, Thomas (Pattie) of Guyton, GA, Scott (Linda) of Paynesville, and Aaron (Danyal) of Belgrade, along with 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, brothers: Francis and Anthony (Karen), sisters: Susan (Donald) Forster, Monica Stephenson, and Mary (Cyrus) Case, and dog, Bam-Bam.
John was preceded in death by his parents: John and Crescentia, brothers: Donald, Joseph, and Jerome.
