Jon A. Rothers, 76, of Kerkhoven, died Thursday, September 15, 2022, at St. Cloud Hospital. His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.
Jon Alan Rothers was born November 7, 1945, in Clara City, Minnesota, the son of George and Alyce (Tyvold) Rothers. He grew up in rural Clara City and graduated from Maynard High School in 1963. He then attended Dunwoody College and began working as an electrician. On June 26, 1965, he married Sandra Harguth. They lived and farmed in the Maynard and Murdock areas. In 1984, they moved into Kerkhoven, where Jon operated his own grain elevator construction business.
Jon was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and dancing polkas and waltzes with Sandy. When his children were young, he enjoyed boating and taking them waterskiing. Jon loved spending time with his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities. He was a hard worker who would drop everything to help family, neighbors or friends fix anything that needed repairs.
He is survived by his wife: Sandy; four children: James Rothers (Stephanie Voxland), Jason (Laurie) Rothers, Stacey (Kurt) Tostenson, and Jeff Rothers (Suzann Skiple); a daughter-in-law: Kara Rothers; eleven grandchildren: Kelsey (Travis), Heather (Nathan), Bethany, Sara, Austin (Courtney), Samantha, Jordon, Emily (Blake) Allison, Jonathan, and Ashley; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Carmen (Paul) Peterson and Jeanie (Byron) Espenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Judy Van Heel; two brothers: Pete Rothers and Jeffrey Rothers; and a great-grandson: Arthur Lamecker.
