Jon Steffensen Obituary

Jon M. Steffensen 56, of New London, died Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London with his family by his side.  A visitation will be held Saturday, June 20, from 2-5:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in New London.  You are encouraged to wear face coverings and adhere to social distancing guidelines.  A private family burial will be held at Crow River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake or the Crow River Cemetery Association.     

Jon Michael Steffensen was born on March 25, 1964, in Willmar, Minnesota the son of Lloyd and Hedvig (Mikkelson) Steffensen.  Jon was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London.  Jon grew up in the New London area and graduated from Willmar High School.  After high school, Jon stayed in the New London area where he worked for Peterson Bus Service, the New London A&W, and McKales Restaurant. 

In 2010 Jon moved to Wadena, Minnesota, the day after the tornado struck the city.  He lived there at Parkwood Home with his good buddies Nolan, LeRoy, and Randy, and worked at the DAC there. 

Jon was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wadena while he lived there.   In both churches, Jon was active in as an usher and greeter.  Jon loved life especially attending New London High School basketball games, shopping, bowling, fishing, puzzles, making latch hook gifts, watching the Twins, and attending family gatherings.  Jon was always happy and brightened everyone’s day.  He loved being around people and always had a hug waiting for you. 

Jon M. Steffensen died on June 16, 2020, at the age of 56.  He is survived by his siblings:  Gary (Wendy) of Belgrade, Dale (Carol L.) of New London, Mary Lee Weaver of Battle Lake, David (Sandy) of New London, Wayne (Kathy) of New London; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Carol J. Steffensen; brother-in-law, Buck Weaver; and nephews:  Christopher, Danny, and Jason Steffensen. 

Jon’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Harry, Judy, and all the caregivers at the Parkwood Home and the loving staff at GlenOaks Care Center that cared for Jon in his final months.  They would also like to acknowledge all the friends who made Jon’s life full over the years; there are too many of you to mention.  We love you all.
