Jon Wendell Swanson was born October 21, 1945. He was the oldest child of John and Irene (Carlson) Swanson. Jon was baptized and later confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. He grew up on his family’s farm and at a young age learned a hard work ethic. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1963 and furthered his education at Willmar Vo-Tech, where he studied Agriculture. Jon enlisted in the National Guard and continued to serve from 1965 until 1971. On July 10, 1971, Jon was united in marriage to Karen Wiegmann at Assembly of God in Willmar. To this union four children were born: Jon M., Melissa, Melanie and Tim. Jon continued to help his father farm until eventually he took the farm over. He enjoyed being a farmer and passing down what he learned from his father, to his sons and daughters. Jon enjoyed mowing the yard and driving truck. He hauled anything from new farming equipment to turkeys. Jon was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend.

Jon is survived by his wife, Karen; children: Jon M. (Lorrie) Swanson of Pennock, Melissa (Lee) Sparks of Rochester, Melanie (Ryan) Nelson of Willmar, and Tim (Barb) Swanson of Raymond; grandchildren: Alaina, Jon R. Sawyer and Cora Swanson, Katelyn and Ella Draheim, Hunter and Harper Nelson, and Tucker and Levi Swanson and Micheal and Madelynn Brockman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary Swanson.
