Joyce Elaine Kroneberger was born December 9, 1929, at home on the family farm near Round Lake. Her parents were Herman and Catherine (Smith) Kluever. She was the eldest of five children. She attended country school in Jackson County and graduated from Round Lake High School where she was honored to be ‘homecoming queen’ in 1947. Joyce achieved her bookkeeping skills at Mankato Community College. Her earliest employments included: Thompson’s Coffee Shop, Wolff's Department Store and Swanberg Insurance Agency, all in Worthington. She met her future husband at a community dance which she attended with girlfriends.
On March 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Andrew Kroneberger of Brewster. During Andrew’s army service commitment, they were stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They lived and farmed near Windom from 1953 to 1956. They then moved to Oxnard, California, where they resided for 20 years and raised their five children. For many of those years, Joyce was a homemaker until she again entered the workforce in 1965. She was employed as a civil servant at the Port Hueneme Naval Base, California where she worked in payroll. In 1975, the family purchased Indian Beach Resort on Green Lake in Spicer. They owned and operated the resort until it’s closing in 2002. For many years, Joyce and Andy spent winters in Florence, AZ. Their lake home was sold in 2019 at which time they moved into assisted living at Assumption Court in Cold Spring.
Joyce converted to the Catholic faith when she married. Prior to that she had been baptized and raised in the Lutheran faith. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church throughout their 44-year residence in the Spicer area. Once in Cold Spring, she greatly appreciated the faith-based community of Assumption Court where Sunday Mass was just a walk down the hallway. Joyce was able to partake in the Rosary nightly with her many new friends. She was an avid card player enjoying both bridge and 500 regularly until just weeks before her death. Her love of gardening was always evident, especially owning a resort and keeping the grounds pristine. She was a long-time member of the Spicer Garden Club and had a small garden plot at Assumption Court in Cold Spring.
Joyce is survived by five children, Dennis (Rachel) Kroneberger, Oak Harbor, WA, Debra (Lee) Rensberger, Big Lake, David (Marie) Kroneberger, Florence, AZ, Donan Kroneberger, Spicer, Diane (Frank) Schram, LaVerne, CA; 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Kristin, Taylor, Jessica, Jaynee, John, Rachel, Sarah, Matthew, Nicholas, Natalie and 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joanna Weiss, Silverdale, WA, Jerome (Nicole) Kluever, Seal Beach, CA, Jacqueline (Howard) Park, Oxnard, CA.
