Judith Torkelson Obituary

Judith J. Torkelson, 81 of Willmar, died Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm. Thursday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar followed by a 7:00 pm. rosary. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.   

Judith JoAnn Torkelson was born on April 19, 1942 in Aitkin, the daughter of Lloyd and Leona (Blaszak) Frovold.  She attended elementary in Swatara and Hill City High School, graduating in 1960.  On May 5, 1962, Judy was united in marriage to Elverd Torkelson in Swatara.  This union was blessed with two daughters and six sons.   They made home in rural Murdock where they worked together on their family farm while raising their children and she also worked as a home health aide, dental assistant and hospital housekeeping. They moved to Willmar in 2001 and she retired in 2007.

Judy was a former member Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock where she was an active member, taught catechism and was instrumental in starting the parish youth group. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer and belonged to CCW.  She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Red Hat Society. 

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elverd; children, Cindy (William) Sauber, Kal (Cindy) Torkelson, Duane (Corinne) Torkelson, Rodney Torkelson, Marie Torkelson, Mark (Laurie) Torkelson, Steven Torkelson and Chad (Jennifer) Torkelson; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Dustin and brother, Jack Kennedy; sister, Jane; and sister-in-law, Joyce Kennedy.
