Kathryn Elizabeth Nelson, 40, of Willmar, died Thursday, April 22nd at her home due to a sudden heart attack. Her celebration of life service will be at 11:00 am, Monday, April 26th at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred. Kathryn Elizabeth Nelson was born August 17, 1980, to David and Gail (Kopp) Nelson in Willmar. She was baptized at Assembly of God in Willmar and was active in the church youth group. Kathryn attended elementary school at the Community Christian School in Willmar before graduating from Willmar High School. She moved to St. Cloud where she lived for a few years before going to the Czech Republic where she taught English for 6 months. She then moved to St. Joseph, MI, to be near family; then on to Minneapolis for school and work and eventually she moved back to Willmar. She received a degree in Computer Programming and Web Development from Ridgewater College in 2020. Kathryn loved to travel and was independent. She was a free spirit and very adventurous which led to her moving to Taiwan for a year to enjoy the culture, the warm weather, and the beautiful surroundings. Her dream was to move somewhere warm permanently. Kathryn enjoyed crafts, painting, sewing, making furniture and playing video games with her nieces and nephews. Kathryn had a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party. She loved spending time with her family and had a special love for her nieces and nephews. Her dogs, Wilson and Milo also had a special place in her heart. She was a loving daughter, sister, auntie, and friend.
Kathryn is survived by her parents, David and Gail Nelson of Willmar, siblings: Ben (Roberta) Nelson of Willmar, Laura (Nick) Huisinga of Crosby; nieces and nephews: Olivia, William and Ian Huisinga, and Avery Nelson. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles and other family and friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her grandparents.
