With profound sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Quam, our loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma.  She passed away at her home on January 6, 2021, surrounded by her husband and 3 children.  She was 65 years young.  Kathy valiantly battled pancreatic cancer for the past 3 ½ years of her life.

Born in Litchfield, MN in 1955, Kathy and her family moved to Okabena and Medford, MN before calling Willmar home.  Kathy attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from Willmar High School in 1974.

On July 4, 1972, in Spicer, Kathy met the love of her life, Steve, on a blind date at Mel’s Drive-in.  They were married on December 14, 1974.  Kathy and Steve made Willmar their home for 18 years until building their forever home, out in the beautiful countryside in 1994.  Steve and Kathy recently celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary.

Kathy lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother & friend to many.  Kathy worked at ACMC in Willmar for over 30 years until she became an Insurance Agent at American Senior Benefits, where she was loved by co-workers and clients for over the past 10 years.  Even after “retiring” in 2020, Kathy still took calls from many clients, always ready to lend a hand.

She had a fierce love for her family and friends.  She loved to travel – enjoying two family vacations with Steve, kids and grandkids to Cayman Island in March 2019 and Jamaica in January 2020.  Steve and Kathy spent the last 3+ years traveling to Hawaii, The Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Maine, Florida and Indiana (to visit Matt and family), just to name a few.  She loved to cook, especially trying new recipes for her family.  She kept an immaculate house, loved to garden, go for walks and enjoy a great glass of wine with friends.  Kathy loved to spend time on the lake, boating with friends and family and staying at cabins. She loved to celebrate, especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter & The 4th of July.  Above all else, she truly absolutely adored being a wife, mother and the title of “grandma”.  If there was a school concert, play, grandparent’s day – you name it, she would be there for her grandchildren. There is nothing Kathy would not do for her family.  Her heart was of pure gold and she truly was a radiant light in this world.

Most of all Kathy was beloved by her family and friends.  Kathy instilled in her children, strong values and traditions that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

She was the beloved wife of Steve Quam of Kandiyohi, mother of Sarah Renneke (husband John) of Eagan, MN, Emily Anderson (husband Bryce) of Mendota Heights, MN and Matthew Quam (wife, Amanda) of Greendale, IN; proud grandmother of Cooper (11) and Brielle (6) Renneke, Jack (11), Owen (9) and Luke (4) Anderson and Gavin (11) and Noah (9) Quam; and sister of Myrna (Grove) Bratsch (husband, Larry) of Springfield, MO.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin “Bud” and Helen Grove and her brother, Robert Grove; her mother and father-in-law, Winifred and Edward Quam, brother-in-law, Alan Quam and nephew, Travis Holmquist.
