Kenneth Combs Obituary

Kenneth D. Combs, 95, of Willmar, died Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Bethesda Grand. His Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 17, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in rural Spicer.  Interment will be in Lebanon Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #537 of New London.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson and Johnson Funeral Homes.  www.hafh.org

Kenneth was born October 11, 1928, in Glenwood, Minnesota, to Donald and Jennie (Andrews) Combs.  The family moved to a farmstead near New London when Kenneth was two years old.  Kenneth attended country school and New London High School, graduating in 1947.  In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany and later at Burtonwood Air Force Base in northwest England, where he met his wife Elizabeth, who worked at the base as civilian personnel.  They were married at St. Oswald’s Catholic Church in 1953.  In 1955 they returned to the United States.  Following Kenneth’s discharge, he began farming in Lake Andrew Township and eventually purchased their present farm, where they spent their entire lives and raised their four children: David, Janet, Steven, and Michael.  He ran a good dairy operation and later sold the farm to his son, Steven, but continued to help out doing field work.  Kenneth was active in the community and served on several church boards.  He became a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in 2010.

Kenneth’s actions and words were always well thought and purposeful, never doing or saying anything without considering all things.  He enjoyed visiting with people and was extremely sociable.  He enjoyed the time he was able to serve on several different ag boards while he was farming.

Kenneth is survived by his children: David (Sherry) Combs, Janet (Gerald) Frost, Steven (Amy) Combs and Michael Combs; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Kyle, Abbey, Nathan, Zachery, Aidan, Gaelan; step-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Angie, Credem and Cameron and five great-grandchildren: Mikiah, Hope, Rose and Charlie and Elliot.  Also surviving is his sister, Marlene Bennett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Elizabeth “Betty” in 2020; and two brothers, Marvin Combs and Duane (Shirley) Combs.
