LaVerne L (Schaffran) Radel

LaVerne L. Radel, 98, of Willmar, died Sunday, August 27th at her home in Willmar.  Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Thursday, August 31st at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

LaVerne was born October 29, 1924, in Granite Rock Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of August C. and Florence (Schultz) Schaffran.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso by Rev. E. R. Baumann.  LaVerne graduated from Wabasso High School in 1943 and from Mankato Commercial College in 1945.  She was a secretary for Ira Rogers, who was the Redwood County Auditor until March 21, 1948 when she was united in marriage to Orville V Radel of Sanborn.  They moved to his farm near Vesta where they farmed until retiring and moving to New London in 1989.  In 2002 they moved to Willmar.

While living on the farm and attending St. John’s Lutheran Church she was a Sunday school teacher, release time teacher and was also the church organist.  After moving to Willmar, they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was also an organist.

She enjoyed embroidering, quilting and putting together puzzles.  Since 1961, she enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins.

Surviving are her children, Keith (Cheryl) Radel of Faribault; Bruce Radel of Brandt, SD; Marcia (Tim) Jurek of Foley; Craig (JoLynn Larson) Radel of New London and son-in-law, Ron Wintrone of Onalaska, WI; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Gerald Schaffran of Wabasso and sister, Janith Adams of Phoenix, AZ;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville, in 2003, daughter, Julie Wintrone and grandson, Aaron Wintrone.
