Lanet Sammons Obituary

Lanet Ann Sammons, 71, of Spicer, died Friday, May 23, 2025, at Cura of Willmar.

Her memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.

Lanet was born July 31, 1953, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Doris (Whiteford) Messenbrink.  She grew up on the family farm near Lake Lillian and attended Atwater Public School, graduating from Atwater High School 1971.  She later earned her Certified Nursing Assistance from Ridgewater College.

In 1974, she married Gary Sammons at the United Methodist Church in Willmar.  They made their home in Spicer, where they raised their two children, Karie and Travis.  Lanet’s life was a testament to kindness, love, and generosity. She was a warm, caring soul whose presence brightened the lives of family, friends, and countless members of her community.

For many years, she dedicated herself as a Certified Nursing Assistant, offering compassion and comfort to nursing home residents at Rice Care Center and Bethesda. Her work wasn’t just a job—it was an extension of her heart, as she cared deeply for those she served until her retirement at age 51. Lanet’s giving nature didn’t end there; she was always ready to lend a hand, no matter the task, always eager to keep herself busy and contribute wherever she could.

Her joy was infectious, her smile unwavering. A bubbly ray of sunshine, she had a way of lifting spirits with her laughter and warmth. Anyone fortunate enough to know her could feel the love she shared so freely.

Beyond her kindness, Lanet was also incredibly talented and hardworking. She found joy in embroidery, crochet, and quilting, creating beautiful pieces while sitting beside Gary, hands never idle as she crafted her next masterpiece. Her artistry was a reflection of her love—each stitch, each detail, a symbol of her dedication and creativity.  She shared her gifts at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, where she was a member, by making quilts for high school graduates, veterans, and the Bible Camp auction.

Lanet was loved deeply, not only for what she did but for who she was. Her legacy lives on in the warmth she gave, the kindness she shared, and the memories she left behind. She will be cherished forever by her husband, Gary Sammons; her two children: Karie (Troy) Baumann of St. Cloud and Travis Sammons of Willmar; a grandson, Brodie Baumann; siblings, Randy Messenbrink and LeAnn Messenbrink, both of Willmar; and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter in 1977 and Doris  in 2013; and her brother: Calvin Messenbrink in 1991.
