Larry Roberg Obituary

Larry D. Roberg, 75, of Paynesville, passed away Friday, January 2 at the St. Cloud Hospital. His Funeral Service will be 11 am, Wednesday, January 7 at Paynesville Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, January 6 at the church, and continue one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mission Cemetery near Paynesville. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Larry Dwaine Roberg was born July 24, 1950, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Dwaine and Lois “Elaine” (Hufford) Roberg. He grew up in the Paynesville area and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1968. Following high school, Larry attended Willmar Technical College.

Larry met the love of his life, Joyce, in 1966 when they were set up on a blind date to the drive-in movie. Their love story continued, and the couple was united in marriage on September 11, 1971, in Spicer. Together they established their life on the family farm, where they built a home and raised their family—a place Larry remained deeply rooted throughout his life.

A hardworking and dedicated farmer, Larry milked cows, raised turkeys, and spent many hours working in the steel fabricating shop. Farming was more than an occupation to him; it was a way of life. Beyond the farm, Larry was rarely idle. He loved being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, taking genuine interest in what they were doing and showing up whenever he could. He also enjoyed being on the phone — connecting with people, checking in, and offering  support.

Later in life, Larry discovered a love for e-biking while visiting his daughter in New Zealand and happily shared that passion with his family and friends back home in Paynesville.

Above all, Larry was a man of deep faith, loving God with all his heart, mind, and soul. This faith shaped the way he lived and gave generously to others. He had a strong passion for missions and participated in many mission trips to Mexico, often driving the bus so others could be served. His servant’s heart was just as evident at home, where he also drove the van for Vacation Bible School, making sure children had the opportunity to attend.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Roberg; children, Jason (Cindy) Roberg and Jen (Jason) Sands; grandchildren, Weston Roberg, Andrea (Eli) Shingledecker, Leanna (fiancé, Jose Anaya) Roberg, Nolan Roberg, Eli Sands, and Micah Sands; great-granddaughter, Alaythia Shingledecker; siblings, Gary (Fern) Roberg, Debra Roberg, and Loren (Janet) Roberg, and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dwaine and Elaine Roberg.
