Lavonne Amundson, 86, of Willmar, died Wednesday, August 6 at Centra-Care Rice Hospital in Willmar. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 12 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Lavonne Amundson was born on June 9, 1939, to Fred and Irene (Lenz) Lohmeyer in Danube. She grew up on the family farm near Danube. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Lavonne graduated from Danube High School in 1957 and went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification in Willmar.
On June 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Curtis Amundson at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Together they were blessed with two children, Kevin and Nancy. Lavonne began her nursing career at Rice Hospital, where she worked as an LPN until her retirement in 1994. After retiring from the hospital, she continued working in various roles with Willmar Public Schools.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing, reading, and traveling—especially on bus tours with her sisters.
Lavonne is survived by her children, Kevin (Kristin) Amundson of Willmar and Nancy Amundson of Willmar; her siblings, Marlyne Majerle, Dianne (Gale) Swart, and Gary (Jane) Lohmeyer; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, in 2008; and her parents, Fred and Irene.
