LeRoy Joseph Turbes

LeRoy Turbes, 90, of Kandiyohi, died Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Bethesda Grand.  His funeral will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 27th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with burial to be in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kandiyohi with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167.   There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. LeRoy Joseph Turbes was born July 2, 1930, on the family farm north of Springfield, Minnesota, to Joseph and Mary (Wenisch) Turbes.  He grew up, attended country school and worked on the family farm near Springfield.   He enlisted in the US Army and on August 23, 1953, he married Charlotte Kumerow in Lamberton, Minnesota.  They lived in Anchorage, Alaska, where LeRoy was stationed while serving in the US Army.  They later moved to Lamberton, where LeRoy farmed and Long Prairie, where he farmed and worked at a feed store, before moving to Kandiyohi in 1966.  While living in Kandiyohi, LeRoy worked at the Sinclair gas station, the Willmar Post Office, drove school bus for Kandiyohi Bus Company, owned and operated Kandi Rentals, and bartended part-time.  He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church and was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #167.  LeRoy was a jack of all trades, loved to keep busy and could fix almost anything. 

He is survived by his four children: Debra Turbes of Little Falls, Cheryl Turbes of Willmar, Brian Turbes of Winona, and Lisa (and Eric) Palaschak of Adrian; eight grandchildren: Jeremy (and Michelle) Urban, Jennifer (and Scott) Knudson, Jason Urban, Joshua Zenner, Kendra Turbes, Nicholas Turbes, Natasha Mulder, and Kiersha Mauch; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte, in 2016; his siblings: Lawrence Turbes, Arnold Turbes, Agnes Riederer, Christine Nelson, Marie Vogel, Sally Peters, Eleanor Veenstra, Cecilia Reupke, Peter Turbes, Albert Turbes, John Turbes, and Bernard Turbes; and his goddaughter and niece, Renae Groff Arneson.
