Leonard "Freddie" Mattson Obituary

Leonard “Freddie” Mattson, 76, of Willmar, died Wednesday, March 6th, 2019, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  His funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 12th at Willmar Assembly of God. Spring burial will be in Buffalo Lake Mission Covenant Cemetery, Murdock. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.  www.hafh.org

Leonard Freddie Martin Mattson was born on November 20, 1942, in Louriston Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the son of Leonard and Arlene (Johnson) Mattson.  He grew up in the Murdock area.  He graduated from Maynard High School in the Class of 1960.  He was united in marriage to Darlene Hanson on November 19, 1963, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Four children were blessed in this union.  Freddie worked as a butcher, an insurance agent, and in manufacturing.   He retired from Accurpress in Willmar in 2008, after 20 years of service. He was united into marriage to Vicky White DeVries on January 11, 1986, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall.

Freddie was baptized and confirmed at Buffalo Lake Mission Covenant Church.  He attended Willmar Assembly of God where he was active with Elder Care Ministry and Military Ministry, served as a greeter and participated in choir, and Bible studies.  He served his country in the Army National Guard.

Freddie had a great passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and car races.  He loved listening to and attending southern gospel concerts. 

Freddie is survived by his wife, Vicky Mattson of Willmar; children: Jodi (and Greg) Garrison, Wills Point, TX; Cindy (and Doug) Gregersen, Big Lake, Troy (and Nancy) Mattson, Willmar, Kasey (and Shane) Baker, Willmar, Aaron (and Richelle) Mattson Mulvane, KS; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister: Judy (and Iver) Lalim, Maynard, and sister-in-law, Katie Mattson, Spicer. He was preceded in death by his parents; first spouse, Darlene DeBoer; daughter, Londa DeVries; brother, Tim Mattson; and sister, Joanie Bursby.
