Lester Erickson

Lester Erickson, 92, of Willmar, died Saturday, July 4 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar, surrounded by family.

Lester Erickson was born on February 28, 1934, to Reuben and Ella (Olson) Erickson in Sunburg. He was baptized at home in the spring of 1934 and attended District 72 Country School through the eighth grade. After completing his education, Lester began working on the family farm.

In 1957, Lester enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably until his discharge in 1959. Following his military service, he returned home and resumed farming with his family.

On October 18, 1969, Lester married Marva Wilson in Appleton. They were blessed with one daughter and made their home in New London and later the Willmar area. Marva passed away on April 8, 1986.

Throughout his life, Lester worked in a variety of roles. In addition to farming, he was employed as a carpenter with Monson-Erickson Construction and later worked for Cargill until his retirement in 1999.

Lester was a longtime member of East Norway Lake Lutheran Church, where he faithfully served as an usher, church council member, and volunteer, participating in many church activities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling, riding his bicycle, spending time at the senior center, watching birds, and cheering on the Twins. Above all, Lester treasured time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Jaida.

Lester is survived by his daughter, Leslie Boxell; granddaughter, Jaida Boxell; siblings, Ronnie Erickson and Karen (Stanley) Hillers; and his special friend, Phyllis Hanson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marva; his parents, Reuben and Ella Erickson; and his sister, Arlene Ekren.

His memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 10 at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church in rural New London. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar.
