Lois V. Emmert, 77 of New London, died February 8, 2020 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at church. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Lois Virginia Emmert born August 27, 1942 in Montevideo, the daughter of Erick and Meda (Junker) Sulflow. She was baptized on November 8, 1942 in Clara City and confirmed on April 28, 1957 at Maynard Lutheran Church. She attended Maynard High School, graduating in 1960. On September 10, 1960, Lois was united in marriage to Raymond LeRoy Emmert at the Sulflow family farm near Montevideo. This union was blessed with three daughters and two sons. They made their home near Montevideo until moving to Maynard in 1962. In 1967 they moved to Madison and settled on a hobby farm. She babysat for numerous families in Maynard and Madison until starting work at Madison High School. In the early 1990’s, she became the head cook at MMN Elementary until her retirement in 2005. In retirement they moved to a twin home in New London. Lois and Ray were able to share 45 years of marriage before his death on April 10, 2006. Lois moved to Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar in 2018.
Lois was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. Lois was a very active member of stewardship, funeral committee and kids club, by serving lunches and snacks to anyone who came by the kitchen. She enjoyed bible study both in Madison and Christ Care at Peace. She was a life time member of VFW Post #1656 Auxiliary in Madison. Lois was once again the contact for many catering events by the VFW. At the twin home, Lois was the Association President for many years and also was President of the New London Senior Center. As an active member, Lois was crowned Queen of the New London Senior Club. While her children were young she was active in the 4-H program as a leader and building committee member and served on the Lac Qui Parle 4-H food board. Lois was an avid fan of MN Timberwolves, NASCAR, MN Twins, and NLS sports her grandkids participated in. Lois looked forward to her annual mother daughter weekends together. Among her many activities and past times, Lois made sure to have a clean home and baked goods for anyone who stopped by.
Lois is survived by her children Virginia and (Kent) Munro of Cresthill, IL, Vernon (Bridget) Emmert of Kaplan, LA, Virgil (Lisa) Emmert of Shakopee, Vonnie (Lonny) Loterbauer of New London and Valerie (Brian) Engels of Watertown, SD; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild, three great-grandchildren. Her four sisters, Violet Molden, Evelyn Johnson, Janet Winters and Donna Mork. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents and four brother-in-laws.
