Lois A. Hughes, 85, of Paynesville, formerly of Benson, died Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Committal service will be 1:30 p.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in DeGraff. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Lois Ann Hughes was born on November 3, 1935 in DeGraff, the daughter of Peter and Margaret (McQuaid) Fath. She grew up on the family farm near DeGraff and attended country grade school in DeGraff and high school in Graceville. On September 12, 1964, Lois was united in marriage to Franklin Hughes at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. They made their home near Danvers where they farmed. They were able to share in 24 years of marriage before Frank’s death on October 8, 1988. Lois moved to Benson in 1997 where she served as a custodian at St. Francis Catholic Church until her retirement in 2016. She moved to Paynesville in 2018 to be near family.
Lois was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church and former member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. She loved working at the church, walking, working in the flower garden and visiting with everyone along the way.
Lois is survived by her children, Mary (John) Peterson of Lago Vista, TX, Teresa Hughes of St. Bonifacius, Patricia (Ken) Reiman of Paynesville, Jeannine (Wayne) Krienke of Benson and James (Cheri) Hughes of Montevideo; five grandchildren, Andrew, Kayla (Kyle), Nicholas, Tyler(Gretchen) and Madyson; and brother, Joe (Donna) Fath of Benson. She was preceded in death her husband, Frank; parents; and sister, Sister Mary Ann Fath.
