Lois Ann Hurley, 96 of Willmar, died Sunday, May 30th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Visitation will be from 9-11:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, Thursday June 24th, at Church of St. Mary’s in Willmar. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Lois Ann Hurley was born April 26, 1925, the eldest of 4 children born to Louis and Margaret (Novak) Blacik in St. Paul MN. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Adalberts Catholic Church in St. Paul. She attended elementary school at St. Adalberts School before graduating in 1942 from Washington High School in St. Paul. After high school she got a job at Zinsmasters Bakery, then in 1944 she got her first secretary job at Brandtjen and Kluge where she rode the streetcar back and forth to work. On September 6, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Patrick J. Hurley at St. Adalberts Catholic Church. To this union 4 children were born: Michael, Deborah, Daniel and Colleen. Following their marriage, they lived in St. Paul, Great Falls, Montana and in 1965 moved to Willmar during the St. Patrick’s Day Blizzard. Lois started working at Willmar Community College in 1973 as a secretary where she continued to work until 1984. Lois enjoyed reading, writing letters and family history, making greeting cards and playing bridge and 500 weekly. She stayed active playing golf, cross country skiing, dancing and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting and scouting events. Lois was active at St. Marys Church belonging to the Altar and Rosary, Daughters of Isabella, Secret Sis, sang in the Resurrection Choir, served on the Building and Foundation Committee’s and received the Bishops Medal of Service. She was a member of the Lois Club and Ladies Investment Club. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and aunt. She was the last of her siblings to pass away and she enjoyed the extra time with her nieces and nephews.
Lois is survived by her children: Michael P. Hurley of Little Canada, Deborah (Mark) Peterson of Willmar, Daniel (Eugenie) Hurley of Willmar and Colleen (Dennis) Okland of Willmar. Grandchildren: Jessica (Josh) Hardy, Kevin (Ashli Anna) Hurley, Lucas (Katie) Okland, Bryan (Ashley) Hurley, Samuel (Amanda) Okland; and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Patrick in 1996, her parents and her siblings Rosemary Rehberger, Elaine Jensen and Tom Blacik.
