Lucille "Suzie" Johnson Obituary

Lucille (Suzie) E. Johnson, 86, of Belgrade, died Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, surrounded by family.  Her celebration of life will be Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 12-2:00 pm at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade.  A private burial will be held at the church cemetery.     Memorials are suggested to Crow River Lutheran Church, Rosebud Garden Club, or Glacial Ridge Clinic and Hospital. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Suzie was born in Belgrade on March 7, 1934. She was the daughter of Malinda (Bahe) and William Wengler.  She was a lifetime member of Crow River Lutheran Church and graduated from Belgrade High School with the class of 1951. On June 6, 1954, she was united in marriage at Paynesville Lutheran church to her high school sweetheart, Delmore Johnson. They made their home and raised their family on the Johnson family farm. Once their youngest went to Kindergarten, Suzie became a Bookkeeper at the Belgrade Co-op and worked 30 plus years with her best friend, Marilyn Gerhardson. Suzie and Delmore moved off the family farm in 1981 and built their retirement home, a one-level earth home that included many windows in front to watch the birds and wildlife, which she truly enjoyed.

Suzie was a lifelong member of Crow River Lutheran Church. She was very active in WELCA holding several officer positions. She enjoyed her Circle, the quilting ladies, singing and directing church choirs, being a prayer partner for confirmation students, and enjoyed the Sunday morning coffee fellowship. Suzie also loved spending time with her “Therapy Group”, which included pie and coffee at least 2-4 times a week. She loved to travel and see family, it may have been by bus, airplane, car, or pontoon. It didn’t matter, she found great joy being with friends and family.

If you knew Suzie, you know that her Faith made her who she was. kind, caring, loving, and compassionate, and a prayer warrior till the end. Always putting other people’s needs first. She truly was the most unselfish person.

Suzie is survived by her children, Gail (Darrell) Hoekstra of Willmar, Guy (Twylene) Johnson of Andover, Mary Niklaus of Monticello, Linda (Jeff) Annis of Mapleton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Myra (Gurvin) Femrite, and many Bahe cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and step-father Lawrence Kalland, and son-in-law, Dave Niklaus.

Suzie’s family would like to thank Jackie Osterhaus, PA-C, Dr. David Polzin, and all the nurses at Glacial Ridge Clinic and Hospital for their wonderful compassionate care.
