Lurene E. (Martin) Kiehm

December 23, 1932 ~ August 25, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

Lurene “Lu” (Martin) Kiehm, New London, went home to her Lord on August 25, 2023. She has also resided in Delavan, MN and Stillwater, MN.

Lurene was born on December 23, 1932, to Erick and Anna (Vogt) Martin in Elmore Township, Faribault County, MN.  When she was 10, her parents moved to Prescott Township, where she attended and graduated from Delavan High School in 1950.

On May 6, 1952, she married Willard Kiehm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bule Earth. They divorced in 1998.

Lu was always busy in the summer helping with field work, running a fertilizer business, measuring chemicals and flagging for an aerial spraying business as well as doing the bookkeeping for all of those businesses.  She had an enormous garden that was preserved every fall by freezing or canning.   In the winter she delivered Winnebago Motorhomes from the factory in Forest City, IA to the dealers all over the United States. In her spare time, you could find her in the kitchen of her home cooking meals and making baked goods. Anyone who was at her kitchen table enjoyed a delicious meal with fresh baked bread, caramel rolls, pie and angel food cake. Everything was made from scratch. For many years she made and decorated cake for all sorts of occasions including many elaborate wedding cakes for family and friends.

Lurene had a love for the Lord and served him in many ways.  No matter where she lived, she found a church to attend and volunteered her many talents. She not only cooked may meals but was an accomplished seamstress, helping to create thousands of quilts, lap robes, hats, mittens and clothes for the needy.

Lurene is survived by her two devoted children, Marty (Betty) Kiehm of Farmington, MN and Naomi (Greg) Johnson of New London, MN; daughter-in-law, Nancy Kiehm of Palisade, MN; six grandchildren, Robert, W. Kiehm, Brett (Heather) Kiehm, Jackie Kiehm, Anna Johnson, Renee (David) Richards, Sarah Johnson; one great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, Myrna and Larry Prange of Delavan, MN. and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert D. Kiehm II; and sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Kenneth Hull.

Graveside services will be 12 noon, Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
