Lyle Simenson, age 89, of Willmar, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, sons, and family.
Visitation will be held at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar on Thursday, October 16, at 11:00 am followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm. In leu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Home On The Range, a therapeutic working ranch supporting youth located in western North Dakota. www.HOTRND.com
Lyle honorably served in the U.S. Navy following the Korean War, where he was a crew member on VP-40 amphibious aircraft. His military service brought him to the Philippine Islands and the South Pacific, where he took great pride in supporting his country and fellow sailors
A Willmar native, Lyle retired from the United State Postal Service in 1982. He also was the owner of S & S Livestock, where he dealt with horses and dairy cattle. He was instrumental in establishing the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Posse in 1961, which assisted the Sheriff’s Department.
Lyle’s heart was happiest in the great outdoors—hunting with family, cheering on his grandchildren at their events, and sharing his deep love of horses. He was an exceptional horseman, embracing the western lifestyle and a devoted fan of Saddle Bronc riding. In his later years, he was often seen riding his beloved mule, Molly.
Lyle is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy; his sons, Tim (Beckie), Todd (Danelle), and Troy (Cathie); his grandchildren Kyle (Heather) Simenson, Katie (Zach) Cunningham, Amanda (Nick( Moriarty, Cody (Brooke) Simenson, Courtney Simenson, and Casey (Brittany) Simenson; his sister Donna Welsh; his brother Dellis Simenson; and fifteen cherished great-grandchildren: Emmie and Aria Simenson, Karter, Haydan, Isaiah, and Taylor Cunningham, Breccan, Kinlee, and Elsie Moriarty, Cooper, Cash, Cheyenne, Tinsley, and Tufton Oftedahl, and Brietlin Kjer-Simenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Arlene Simenson of Willmar; his brother, Larry; sisters, Diane and Wanda; and his grandson, Austin.
