Margaret Mae Irwin

Margaret Mae Irwin, 88, of Willmar, died Sunday, February 15 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, February 20 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home.

Margaret Irwin was born on December 5, 1937, in Minot, North Dakota, to Roland and Henrietta (Fjeld) Freda. She was raised in Burt Township and attended Freedom School for her elementary education. In 1956, she graduated from Minot High School.

On August 28, 1960, Margaret married Arlan Irwin at Saron Lutheran Church in rural Minot. Together they were blessed with three children: Blair, Bryce, and Beth. The couple first made their home in Wahpeton, North Dakota, and later lived in Crookston, Minnesota and Fergus Falls before settling in Willmar in 1977. Margaret worked at various places in Willmar throughout her career, including more than 20 years at Kmart, a job she took great pride in.

Margaret enjoyed reading and was an active member of several book clubs. She also had a deep interest in family history and treasured time spent with her loved ones. Quilting was another favorite pastime, and she participated in her church’s quilting group.

She is survived by her husband, Arlan; her children, Blair Irwin, Bryce Irwin, and Beth (Randy) Welle; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Claire Larson.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Henrietta, and her nephew, Bruce Larson.
