Maria Johnson Obituary

Maria A. Johnson, 83, of New London, died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  Funeral services will be11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Maria A. Johnson was born on November 1, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Felix and Tomasista (Ornelas) Garcia.  She grew up and attended school in San Antonio. She met her husband, Charles Johnson while he was serving in the Air Force.  They were united in marriage on June 14, 1958 in Texas.  They made their home throughout the country while Charles served in the Air Force and she worked as a secretary on the military base. They moved to New London in 1971, where she worked for the IRS and a para and translator for Willmar Public School. She retired in 2000. Maria and Charles were able to share in 42 years of marriage before his death on August 30, 2000.

Maria was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes where her church and church friends were very important to her.   She enjoyed sewing, traveling, shopping, organizing and was an excellent cook.  

Maria died on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar at the age of 83.  She is survived by children, Chuck (Yolanda) Johnson of New London and Robert (Kristine) Johnson of Willmar; three grandchildren, Tara, Keane and Alina; step-grandchildren, Adam and Andy; great-grandchildren; Kaden, Kari, and Kaylee; sister-in-law, Carol “Snook” Olson; brother-in-law, Gene Hardy; nieces, Carrie “Tunie” Welker and Cathy Hardy;  and nephews, Dan Olson and Mike Hardy;

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; two brothers and a sister.
