Marilyn Goeddertz Obituary

Marilyn Goeddertz, age 91, of Willmar, died Monday, March 30, at Bethesda Club Suites in Willmar.

A public visitation will be 11am-1pm Friday, June 19,  at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.  A private memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar and will be live-streamed at https://www.facebook.com/fpchurchwillmar/.  Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.

Marilyn Joyce Goeddertz was born December 2, 1928, in Brainerd, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Graftaas) Peabody.  Marilyn graduated from Washington High School in Brainerd in 1946.  While in school, she enjoyed being a majorette in the band.  Her most favorite color was blue.  She married Lyle Goeddertz on August 27, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church in Brainerd, which was the same church where she was baptized and confirmed.

After their marriage, Lyle and Marilyn moved to Willmar, where Lyle was employed in the law enforcement department.  On June 25, 1959, their son Paul was born.  One of Marilyn’s most precious memories of her son was hearing him say, “I am mama’s precious ‘darden’ (darling)”, which she said to her baby and toddler over and over.  Marilyn also loved her memory of singing “Getting to Know You” from The King and I.

Marilyn enjoyed working for Susie Sanderson and the Girl Scouts of America for many years.  Marilyn and Lyle spent many summers at their cabin on Norway Lake and wintered in Arizona.  She loved to dance, play bridge, attend class reunions, and thoroughly enjoyed her friendships.  Her friends loved her quick wit, great sense of humor and contagious laughter.

She is survived by her son: Paul (and Nancy) Goeddertz of Grove City, MN; a sister: Shirley (and Tom) Lebo of Jordan, MN; granddaughter: Karen of Sartell, MN; grandson: Christopher (and Amber) of Northampton, PA; great-grandchildren: Kya, Avery, and Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle in 2001; a sister: Ruth Grove; and a brother: Richard Peabody,
