Marilyn Goeman, 97, of Raymond, died Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond. The service will be streamed on the church's YouTube channel. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Raymond Fire Department and Ambulance Service or St. Croix Hospice. Arrangement are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes, www.hafh.org.
Marilyn Jean Goeman was born May 24, 1928, in Raymond, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Ida (Buss) Wegner. She grew up and received her education in Raymond, graduating from Raymond High School in 1946 and St. Cloud State University with a teaching degree. On June 24, 1949, Marilyn married Thomas Richard Goeman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond. Two children, Debi and Dan, were blessed to this union.
Marilyn beamed with her love for children, grandchildren and music. She taught school in Raymond for seven years until her children were born. During her time as a teacher, she also accompanied band students during their performances. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond, where she taught Sunday school, confirmation classes, and was an accompanist playing the organ from the time she was 15 until she was 95. She was an extremely active member of the Raymond community, serving on the Harvest Festival committee, Hawk Creek Golf Club board, Homemakers group, Garden Club, and with the Raymond Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and helped with many Raymond Ambulance fundraisers. She loved her Raymond community. Marilyn also served on the Kandiyohi County Public Health and Lutheran Social Services boards. In 2000, she and Tom received the award for Kandiyohi County Outstanding Senior Citizens.
Marilyn loved watching her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sports and activities and loved watching Raymond Rockets baseball. When they were young, her grandchildren went to her home every day after school and made many great memories with Grandma Marilyn. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Marilyn” to many other children in the Raymond community as well.
Marilyn is survived by her two children: Debi (and Brian) Brandt of Raymond and Dan (and Susan) Goeman of Raymond; six grandchildren: Jill (and Adam) Stensrud, Matt (and Nicole) Brandt, Ross (and Kayla) Brandt, Zachary (and Olivia) Goeman, Danielle (and Zach) Thissen, and Hailey (Shaun) Condon; and nineteen great-grandchildren: Hayden and Cody Stensrud, Kolby, Hunter, and Madeline Brandt, Rylynn, Piper, Knox and Maddyn Brandt, Hadley, Gage and Noah Goeman, Lynnlee, Layla and Mac Thissen, Rorie, Tomi, Caine and Cobee Condon, Also surviving are two brothers-in-law: Bill Goeman of Clara City, and Dennis (and Mavis) Goeman of Raymond; several nieces and nephews; and other self-adopted grandchildren, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas in 2009; her parents: Herman and Ida Wegner; Tom's parents: Henry and Tillie Goeman; a sister: Arlene Miller; four brothers: Louis, Butch, Albert and Howard Wegner; three sisters-in-law: Caroline Dykema, Sylvia Lohse, Betty Goeman and Doris Swanson; and two brothers-in-law: Roger Dykema and Harlan Lohse.
