Marilyn J. Niewenhuis, 95, of Prinsburg, MN, died Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living Center, Dyer, IN. Her funeral will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 2nd, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg with interment in Holland Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30-7:30 PM, Friday, May 1st, at the church and one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org. Marilyn was born June 9, 1930, on a farm near Raymond, MN, the daughter of Jerry and Jeanette (Roelofs) Apol. Marilyn was raised on the farm until her father passed away suddenly when she was 8 years old, they then moved to live in Prinsburg. She graduated from Clara City High School in 1947. Marilyn obtained her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in the 2-room schoolhouse at Sunnyside School.
Marilyn married Junior Niewenhuis on October 6, 1950, and were blessed with three children. Marilyn and Junior raised their children on the family farm outside of Prinsburg with Marilyn working alongside Junior throughout their life on the farm. Marilyn returned to teaching when the children were all school age. She taught at Blomkest Elementary School and then District #815 for many years. When District #815 closed, Marilyn went to work in the office at Prinsco.
Marilyn was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Marilyn had a strong faith in the Lord and was active in many areas of ministry throughout the church. She participated in Mission Club, Friendship ministry, sang in the choir, and made many quilts with the quilting group. Marilyn was an active volunteer at New2You thrift store for many years. She had a heart for helping those in need.
Marilyn and Junior enjoyed traveling and took many trips throughout the United States and Europe. They treasured the friendships they made during these trips and the places they visited. They also enjoyed entertaining friends and family at their lake cabin on Lake Florida. It was a special time when Marilyn could enjoy watching her grandchildren swim, fish and ski at the lake.
Marilyn is survived by the three children, Randall (Carol) Niewenhuis of Minnetonka, Jolene (Bruce) Aardsma of Dyer, IN, and Pamela (Larry) Rogers of Maple Grove; ten grandchildren, Keven Niewenhuis of Minnetonka, Jeffrey (Deborah) Niewenhuis of Carmel, CA, Allison Niewenhuis (Richard Cruz) of Lakewood, CA, Andrea Maier of Wayzata, Alexander (Bira) Niewenhuis of Hopkins, Daniel (Amanda) Aardsma of Schererville, IN, Nathan (Kelly) Aardsma of Dyer, IN, Jason (Allison) Aardsma of Cincinnati, OH, Kyle (Audrey) Rogers of Watertown, Christopher (Rochelle) Rogers of Minnetonka; 18 great grandchildren, a brother, Dallas Apol, of Sioux Center, IA and sister-in-law, Nyla Wieberdink of Prinsburg.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Junior, granddaughter, Christine Joy Aardsma, her parents, her sisters, Gladys Groen and Ardis Zondervan, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
